PROGRAM
6 General Classrooms @ 900 sq. ft. each, 2 Science Labs @ 900 sq. ft. each, Lobby space @ x sq. ft with built in trophy case, Faculty Breakroom @ x sq. ft., Toilet Rooms @ x sq. ft., Electrical and Mechanical Closets, Storage and Janitor Closets, and Mechanical Mezzanine.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Katrina forced the 5-8th grade students into a temporary facility for nearly six years. Finally this school’s long recovery process will come to an end now that this Classroom building is complete. The temporary modular building will be removed and the new parts of campus will face the old sandwiching the student playgrounds. The exterior envelope’s material palette composed of brick, decorative concrete block and metal wall panels matches the existing buildings. The circulation flows around the interior toilet and break room core then opens up at the lobby where floor to ceiling curtain wall and an angled wall direct the eye down the stepped seating and outward to the playground and gymnasium facade. The front concrete bleacher setting will be used for outdoor theater, music performances, student congregation, and hopefully class pictures.
